Scandinavian mid century dining tables are still hugely popular as the centrepiece of a modern clean uncluttered dining space. 

Often the tables have clever invisible extension leaves that help extend the table top size for when guests arrive. They are cleverly stored back in place when not in use. 

Teak would have to be the most widely used timber type for use in the construction of dining tables as it boasted wonderful grains, subtle richness of colour and strong durability.
